A fundamental assumption of the current study, and of resilience engineering in general, is that the misdiagnosis of social and behavioral cues is inevitable; officers will always be operating with less than perfect information, and will from time to time find themselves in less than ideal tactical positions. The purpose of this study was to examine whether or not resilience could be engineered into an unforgiving split-second shoot/no-shoot decision environment even when officer are placed in poor tactical positions with inaccurate information without significantly increasing the risk to the involved officers.
